Motorbike breakdown cover attached to the rider

August 30th, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

A basic examination of breakdown cover in the United Kingdom shows us that there are two primary options. The first is to purchase cover for our car or vehicle. The second is to attach the breakdown cover to ourselves personally so that regardless of the car we’re driving should it suffer a mechanical malady we need only use our mobile to call for assistance. There are the advantages and disadvantages to both options. A basic breakdown cover comparison reveals the flaws of each.

When we purchased breakdown cover for one car the price is invariably lower. However, if that car is older it may not meet the criteria for low rate breakdown cover. Whenever a vehicle is over 15 years old the wiser option is personal breakdown cover. Purchase of cover in this matter avoids the issue of the vehicle’s age and reliability entirely. Personal breakdown cover may also be of assistance when purchasing motorbike breakdown cover.

The key in this situation being to make sure that your contract for cover is based on a motor vehicle in general and not an automobile. A more complete examination of breakdown cover is available free of charge at Breakdownchoices.co.uk. Every important nuance of breakdown coverage is explained in detail on the site which also provides direct links into all of the best UK breakdown cover deals.

Is pay as you go mobile broadband a giant step backward?

August 29th, 2009 by admin | 3 Comments | Filed in Press Releases

In studying and comparing pay as you go broadband plans and one of my favorite consumer choices websites Broadband Choices, an odd remembrance came to me. Vodafone, O2 and 3 all offer pay as you go mobile broadband on a per unit cost basis.

This means that you connect to the Internet at a rate of approximately 15 pounds per gigabyte of download. For light users this creates a savings of approximately 50%. For heavy personal and business mobile broadband users this represents the potential to pay triple the contract rate.

So what was this on remembrance? It was the early days of the Internet connection by means of dial up. In those days in the mid 1990s we accessed the Internet via now familiar portals such as AOL and Prodigy. In order to use the connections and graphic user interfaces of these portals one paid by the minute for time spent online. True growth of the Internet did not occur until AOL and other portals began to offer flat rate unlimited usage. In the United States all plans and options for mobile broadband include unlimited usage. For some reason UK suppliers refuse to give up these few pence of profit.

When one considers that mobile broadband coverage from many of the United Kingdom’s suppliers only approaches 80% availability in the UK, it becomes clear that England’s mobile broadband providers will need to lower prices and improve the service if they hope to compete with the convenience of ADSL.

Green flag breakdown builds a network for UK rescue

August 29th, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

Breakdown Choices, as the United Kingdom’s leading breakdown cover comparison website has recently published informational articles detailing the substantial differences in prices and service from roadside assistance. These articles explain in depth the advantages and disadvantages offered by different roadside assistance companies.

A unique aspect of the articles is examination of Green Flag Breakdown. Green Flag Breakdown is a far less known provider of breakdown cover throughout the United Kingdom. And, as pointed out at Breakdownchoices.co.uk, lower prices do not necessarily imply a lower grade of service. In fact, Green Flag Breakdown has been systematically developing and coordinating their own network of participating rescue garages.

Most people are unaware that major breakdown cover providers such as RAC and AA rely upon local garages for fully 95% of their call outs. While RAC does maintain a fleet of company vehicles, the primary purpose of these is to offer on the spot repair as opposed to tow home service. Green Flag Breakdown is focused more on dispatch of qualified mechanics. Another interesting point to consider when one wishes to compare breakdown cover is that because all of the companies providing roadside assistance insurance rely on local garages to some extent, there is a high likelihood that the mechanic who comes to your rescue from RAC, Green Flag or AA is the same exact truck and driver.

Free line rental arrives from the post office

August 29th, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

It would appear that we’re finally seeing the results of increased competition in the home phone marketplace. The last bastion of resistance, charges for use of a BT landline, is finally crumbling. The post office, long to be commended for their simple understandable approach to customer service, is offering a package for home phone and broadband that at just over 20 pounds per month seemingly includes free line rental.

Or at the very least is billed to imply this. No doubt, BT is still receiving their wholesale payment from the RBS Post Office, but we as consumers needn’t be concerned with this. Our only concern should be the bottom line, how much we are paying every month for the services we desire. Popular consumer assistance website homephonechoices.co.uk has assembled a superb comparison of all the best deals for home phone service available in the United Kingdom.

And because so many UK consumers are now connected to the Internet, Home Phone Choices has constructed these reviews both with and without broadband bundling. In order to simplify the process of comparing telecommunications services for the home, Home Phone Choices has placed on their website’s home page a simple to use service comparison tool. To use this free tool one merely enters their post code into a box, selects the degree of service they prefer and clicks to compare prices.

BROADBANDCHOICES.CO.UK OFFERS TOP TIPS FOR STUDENT MOBILE BROADBAND DEALS

August 27th, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

broadbandchoices
For the vast majority of students, broadband is a basic necessity – it can be used for research, socializing, entertainment and also for keeping on top of money management. Not having online access is simply not an option for a generation that has come to rely on the internet but on a student budget, many baulk at the cost. However, getting connected is not always as expensive as one might think.

Michael Phillips, product director, Broadbandchoices.co.uk commented:
“Whether you are a first year student or heading back to do your final year, it is worth considering taking a mobile broadband service. Mobile broadband deals have really come down in price over the past year and often come with some pretty good freebies attached.”

“A mobile connection gives you the freedom to get online wherever you need to – in the hall of residence, at the library or in the local coffee shop. It also removes the thorny issue of splitting yet another utility bill with your house mates.”

“Furthermore, going mobile means you can ditch the additional cost of line rental, a move which could save you around £130 per year.”

Broadbandchoices.co.uk top tips for students choosing a mobile broadband package:

1. Try a monthly option – If you are worried about signing up to a long term deal, try a one month contract with a provider like Orange, 3 or O2. This way, you can try out the service and ensure you are happy before signing up for the longer term.

2. Avoid pay as you go – Whilst it offers the flexibility of no contract, pay as you go is not always the best option for students as you are rarely able to carry over unused data allowances from one month to the next.

3. Check the ‘freebies’ – Whilst free laptop deals and the like may seem compelling, you should always check the cost of the broadband package against the cost of an equivalent service and laptop purchased separately. This will ensure you really are getting a good deal. Otherwise, you may find that your ‘freebie’ wasn’t really free after all.

4. Download with caution – Keep an eye on your usage and where you are connecting from before accessing your Mobile broadband. Usage charges from abroad and penalty charges for exceeding your download limit can be astronomical with some services.

5. Habitual heavy downloader? – If you spend a lot of time downloading TV shows and music, you may want to consider sharing a fixed line service with a housemate – for example, Be Broadband offers a 24Mb speed on a three month rolling contract.

Van Recycling – Because every little bit helps!

August 25th, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

It is perhaps a sad fact that the current economic crisis has caused many of us to neglect our duties regarding recycling and other ‘green’ issues. It is hard to make sure you do everything you can to help the planet, when you are struggling to pay the bills.

One quite major way that you can help is by choosing how you dispose of your scrap vehicles. If you have an unwanted vehicle that you are looking to get rid of, then consider calling an ethical car and commercial vehicle dismantlers.

Far from the old image of a greasy slightly overweight man in overalls throwing used engine oil in a hedge, a modern, efficiently run vehicle disposal yard can strip a vehicle of all usable parts, thus lessening the waste, and then send off the rest of the metal to be melted down for reuse.

It is not just ‘scrap’ vehicles that these business can collect either, some vehicles are suitable for export via boat, and in such cases the vehicle may well go on to help people in other, less affluent countries.

If you are interested in learning more about scrap can collection or van removal, then contact http://www.unitedvans.com today.

United Vans are also a great place to call if you are in need of Van Spares or Van Parts.

BT TV and a program for people who don’t watch much television

August 21st, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

For whatever reason there are some people who simply don’t watch a great deal of television. For these people BT TV offers a very unique service which we will refer to as pay as you go TV.

To qualify for BT Television you must contract for Broadband through BT. Your television service is based on Freeview with an additional rate of four pounds per month added to a very low broadband base package. Still, why pay for more than you need? With BT Vision you purchase specialty programs such as movies and sports events at a reasonable per viewing price. The interesting thing about this program is that you are actually not buying cable TV as a separate entity.

You’re purchasing your cable TV as an addendum to your broadband. What this says is that how you bundle your telecommunications packages can vastly affect the price you pay. To further understand package savings on Digital TV go to digitalchoices.co.uk. At the digital choices website you will find all manner of news and information relative to prices and service for digital TV.

You’ll also find a simple to use digital TV price comparison tool. Into this tool you enter your post code and select whether you are interested in straight TV packages or bundling of TV and broadband. BT Vision is certainly not a package for everyone and those who watch the prerequisite 8 hours of television daily are far more likely to opt for plans from Tiscali or Virgin. But for those whose lives are lived primarily without the assistance of a television or computer screen, BT Vision may be a perfect alternative

Repercussions home phone and broadband packaging

August 21st, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

By now almost everyone in the UK has grown accustomed to and accepted British Telecom’s 1 pound per month increase in the charge for line rental. This of course is the charge from BT to BT customers. Other home phone service companies using BT’s copper cable that have the means to carry their service into your home are charged less by British telecom and consequently charge their customers less.

British telecom competitors such as Primus, Post Office home phone and Yourcalls.net are obviously not in the position to offer free line rental that can undercut the BT price by around 3 pounds per month. Free consumer assistance for home phone matters website Home Phone Choices reports that switching home phone service providers just to save these particular three quid is probably not worth the bother. Home phone choices does suggest however that if any of the major BT competitors have other services bundled with home phone such as home phone and broadband combined, then the likely savings are well worth changing over for.

Still, one wonders why solid loyal BT customers are charged more than those who choose their competitors. In light of BT’s recent line rental increase, would a mass desertion of the BT customers force British Telecom to take a more competitive approach? And for that matter if companies such as Talk Talk and Virgin Media are going to give us home phone service as almost a throw in with the purchase of broadband and television channels is it not simply time to leave BT and move on to better deals.

Mobile broadband coverage in the UK is far from complete

August 20th, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

Almost all of the United Kingdom’s mobile broadband suppliers are fiercely advertising the superiority of their service over that of their competitors. An interesting byproduct of this type of advertising is that it draws attention away from the industry as a whole.

Fortunately for potential UK mobile broadband users, consumer protection websites such as Broadband Choices have been created to present to customers in the UK and unbiased view of all available options. One of the major considerations to make before contracting for service is mobile broadband coverage.

We tend to assume that our mobile phones and consequently the dongle attached to our laptop computer by means of a USB Port will send and receive from any point in the nation. But data streaming requires a 3G Internet connection. And that connection is not yet fully in place throughout the United Kingdom. In fact percentages of 3G availability vary greatly on mobile broadband from company to company. In reports found on Broadband Choices, many UK mobile broadband suppliers have yet to achieve 80% availability of signal across the United Kingdom. And for many suppliers signal strength differs from point to point. Many suppliers only provide suitable service in specialty areas such as airports.

It should be noted that this disparity does not preclude the availability of quality mobile broadband service in the UK or for your specific location. But still you must sort through all available mobile broadband contract options including pricing options such as pay as you go mobile broadband in order to be certain you are receiving an honest and fair value.

Location, location, location for home phone and broadband

August 17th, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

There is an old axiom for those in the real estate business stating that the three most important factors for sales are location, location, and location. While that humor has long gone stale, the application of the idea seems to transfer very well to what we as UK consumers must pay for our home phone service. Companies such as Tiscali and Virgin Media have been busying themselves with the creation of new fiber optic communications networks in various locations around the United Kingdom.

Those fortunate enough to be served by this new technology generally receive far lower prices for combined home phone and broadband service. This new fiber optic network eliminates the need for the base BT landline. Closer comparison shows that Virgin Media still charges for landline rental while Tiscali broadband now offers completely free line rental. A quick comparison of home phone service found at homephonechoices.co.uk reveals that presently only Post Office home phone service and Tiscali have eliminated line rental charges by bundling services together.

Of course, we must remember that many companies only offer their services in certain parts of the United Kingdom. In order to find what is absolutely the best deal on home phone service in your area you will need to use a location specific comparison tool for home phone service. Such a tool is available for use free of charge at homephonechoices.co.uk.

Weather conditions and breakdown cover comparison

August 15th, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

For decades it has been assumed that foul weather directly impacted the necessity for breakdown cover. A recent comparative study released by Breakdown Choices, a popular automobile assistance discussion website, reveals that climate i. e. colder weather is a mitigating factor in breakdown cover comparison. There seems to be the one consideration as to how often cars breakdown. That is the mileage cars drive. True, certain automotive maladies such as dead batteries and frozen radiators are most likely to occur during the winter months but because travel is far more limited in those months, the need for assistance in the form of breakdown cover is still greatly diminished.

As we finish summer and enter autumn we can still look forward to many weekend excursions each offering an opportunity albeit unwanted for mechanical failure. Hence any valid plan to compare breakdown cover had better include pricing for long distance towing. Long distance towing is considered to be the return of your car to your home garage from any point further than 50 km away.

Such a valid comparison is available, free of charge at that, in Breakdownchoices.co.uk. Breakdown Choices is currently offering free review and comparison featuring RAC, AA and Green Flag Breakdown cover. Visitors to Breakdown choices should take particular note that both RAC and AA offer discounts for purchase of their plans online. In fact without this discount neither of these two would be cost effective or feasible.

Chaos in self-build construction no longer necessary, Project management support and guidance package announced!

August 12th, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

‘We can demystify self-build project management for anyone wanting to manage their own project.’ says owner of Bristol based firm, ‘markwatson© project management and construction services’ as it launches its new project management support and guidance package.

The way has been cleared for all self-build project owners to be able to stay one step ahead of the rocky path that is construction project management. Without spending the sort of budget breaking amounts normally associated with external onsite project management companies. The package of weekly project support meetings and unlimited email support is ideally suited to the ‘Grand Designers’ out there that want to manage it themselves but haven’t the confidence to do so.

The package consists of a free initial consultation meeting of 30 minutes where the client is assessed as to the nature, scope and requirements of the project. The client’s skills are also assessed to determine the amount of training required.

A programme, suitable to both the client and the company, is agreed on. This will consist of submission of weekly statistics and reports to be processed before the weekly one-hour meeting by phone. During the call there is a structured process of assessment, to determine the clients progress in managing his or her project. The client may request, or have suggested to them, some additional time for extras such as more specific training and personal guidance. This is all delivered in email and phone format, keeping costs to a minimum yet losing none of the potency and power of the individual support, encouragement and training.

The consultant works offline with the submitted data between each call so as to maximize the time at the weekly meetings. Resources available to the client are suggested as and when required creating a more flowing learning curve rather than the front end heavy learning curve of a traditional school or university. Meaning the client can effectively manage the project in real time. Thus achieving project completion and effective management at the same time!

The process is so effective that the costs associated with this package are said to be completely outweighed by the time and cost savings derived from having an expert in project support and management on tap throughout the whole process.

More detailed information can be found at http://www.markwatsonfreedomproducts.co.uk/projectmanage.htm

Bundling telecommunications with Virgin TV

August 11th, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

In order to receive a great deal for digital TV from Virgin Media you must combine that purchase with either home phone service or broadband connection, or as Virgin Media would no doubt prefer a package of all three. While many people have chosen to rely on mobile phone service entirely for their phone usage, far more people still prefer the consistency and reliability of home phone service.

As to broadband, one would think that a consumer looking for 50 plus premium television channels is also a regular Internet surfer. So when we consider the restriction placed by Virgin Media so as to qualify for their television service, it is likely not much of a restriction at all. That said we can consider various cable TV packages as offered by Virgin TV. Virgin TV offers three channel package options.

These are presented as one might buy a T shirt in medium, large, and extra large. The base price for a television package including the basic phone line is 11 pounds per month. Prices travel upward to 86 pounds per month for what is referred to as the Virgin Media VIP package.

As with Digital TV from other providers such as the BT Vision package, value largely depends upon your planned usage. However, if you have a household populated with all different age groups a Virgin TV extra large package is likely to be your immediate choice. For assistance in evaluating digital TV both with and without broadband please visit digitalchoices.co.uk.

WiMax Transmitters could Increase Broadband Coverage.

August 7th, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

WiMax transmitters added to BT broadband exchanges could give more coverage in remote areas, to help widen the availability of broadband.

The Guardia stated that WiMax masts can give wireless broadband speeds of between 4mb and 6mb over a distance of about 5miles. Many PCs are said to soon be fitted with the tech embedded in their chipsets in the near future.

The Guardian seemingly critisise the UK government, stating that it has not worked hard enough to backup the Digital Britain report it published this year.

The digital britain report aims to have a minimum of a 2mb internet connection available across Britain by the year 2012, however many industry experts have questioned the governments ability to back the plan, especially in more rural areas of the country.

Mobile broadband may also form a part of the digital Britain plan, however it is not yet known to what extent.

The increase availability of broadband has meant that consumers are able to compare broadband providers before chosing who to use for their connection.
