Cheap line rental choices extend beyond the major suppliers

December 27th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

= For Immediate Release =

  1. Customers can save money by shopping around for a new supplier
  2. Small providers can offer cheaper prices and greater flexibility

The prices on line rental services from the big suppliers have all risen in the past few months, and have been continuing to rise for some time. While all of the big providers offer an easy service and a well recognised name, they often use their popularity as a way to raise prices without having to worry about losing too many customers. However, those looking for cheap line rental services further afield can find some great prices without any additional effort on their part.

Lesser known services like Primus can offer customers line rental that’s roughly 20% cheaper than BT, while offering very similar call deals and prices as any of the big providers. If you pay for a service like Primus up front for a year, you can save even more money – around £100 if you’re switching over from a similar priced BT service.

Whenever you decided to move away from BT it’s worth making sure you understand how other providers work. Some landline providers simply rent the right to run their own service from BT, but others use a technology called Local Loop Unbundling. This allows them to run a whole separate network from BT, which makes things much cheaper for both the provider and, in turn, the person paying for the connection!
The only disadvantage of using LLU is that once you switch to an LLU provider you do have to pay money to get reconnected back onto BT, but there is more than one LLU provider, so even if you don’t like the one you switch to, you can still move between other LLU services for cheap or for free.

Landline costs are set to continue rising above inflation over the next few years as big companies fund future expansions and fight the recession. The best way to stay ahead of these rises is to stay ahead the of market, switch when you need too and make sure you don’t get stuck on any contract for more than 12 months.

Compare breakdown cover and give the gift of peace of mind this Christmas

December 17th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases
  1. RAC offers a brand new way for you to pay for breakdown cover
Breakdown costs are one the largest single payments that car owners make

Whether you drive a large transit van, an electric smart car or even a motorbike, at some point in your vehicle’s life it will break down, and you can pretty much bet on it breaking down when you least expect it or when you happen to be on your way to somewhere very important.

Nothing can stop a vehicle from breaking down, but you can stop the incident taking a significant chunk out of your personal finances by protecting yourself beforehand and singing up to a breakdown insurance provider.
These providers can offer you the peace of mind that, in a breakdown situation, you will be a priority case. They can offer you roadside assistance and if your car can’t be repaired right there, they can take get it taken to a garage while paying for your onward journey, making sure one single breakdown doesn’t ruin your entire plans.

Even if you don’t own a car, you can cover four other vehicles and a number of companies deal specifically with motorcycle breakdown cover.
There are a number of different options available for motorists who want to get breakdown cover. Firstly, you can get the cover through either your existing car insurance company or through a premium bank account, but in most cases these aren’t the cheapest options. The market is pretty fierce and is very consumer friendly, so when you compare breakdown coveronline you’re more likely to save money than if you just choose to go through your insurance company.

There’s always new deals cropping up which you might miss if you don’t look out online, and finding the best breakdown cover can often involve checking online and waiting for such a deal. For example, the RAC are currently offering a ‘gift card’ for breakdown cover which you can buy for a friend which will cover the cost of a single breakdown incident. It might not be the deal for everyone, but if your friend is driving a particularly unreliable vehicle, it could be the perfect Christmas gift.

Consumers turn to cheap Line Rental after BT raise prices again

December 17th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases
  1. BT Prices are set to raise to £13.60 a month in the new year

Just as our energy, broadband and insurance prices seem to continue to rise, or home phone lines are also seeing a sharp increase in prices. The latest company to push their prices up is BT, the largest home phone and broadband supplier in the country. Line rental for all BT customers will increase by 31p from January 4th 2011.

This will put the cost of the average BT line rental to £13.60 a month for those paying for their line rental by direct debit. Those choosing to pay by any other method such as cheque, debit card or cash will be paying £15.09 a month.

BT may have been the latest people to raise their prices, but they certainly aren’t alone. Most of the big name landline providers have also raised their prices due to the increase in VAT to 20% at the start of the new year.

Virgin Media have raised prices from £11.99 to £12.24, Sky have raised prices from £11.00 to £11.25 and Plusnet have raised prices from £11.25 to £11.99, the single biggest rise. These companies, together with BT, cover a huge amount of the UK population, but they are not the only phone line rental companies available.

As the big providers continue to raise prices, many consumers are switching to cheap line rental offers from small companies. Companies like Primus, Auracall and Yourcalls.net are charging much less money than the big companies while offering a similar level of service.

You can check out how much you can save yourself by visiting a comparison website and having a look at the various deals and packages available. Remember that while smaller companies may offer cheaper deals, you could still save more money overall by getting a TV, phone and broadband bundle from a larger supplier.

British Van Breakers only has admiration for the recycling efforts of one America’s largest car manufacturers

December 10th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

As we look into the remarkable decision made by GM Motors to develop cars which are almost entirely recyclable, we speak to a British company to understand their take on this firm stance towards helping the environment.

Last month on the eve of GM’s return to the Stock Market, it was made clear that they say the way forward for their entire company was to follow a significantly greener path. With exciting prototypes on view which think of the environment first, and some exciting announcements regarding their plans to provide cars which are less harmful to our environment, they made a statement which surely many other large car companies will also make soon.

The big story was that GM is promising to build cars that are made from renewable resources wherever possible, and they hope to make almost all of the materials from the cars recyclable, with 85 percent currently recyclable from most of their range.

This is obviously a massive step forward in that finally a car manufacturer is taking stock of the situation and admitting that they can do more to help. We thought that this was a great stand point, but wondered whether any breakers in our country were already seeing this sort of benefit from any British manufacturers. We spoke to the Managing director of a British van breakers who had some interesting thoughts. “To be honest we haven’t found that there are car companies banging down our doors to create alliances with us, but we have done some great work with local companies who are looking to be more responsible with their vehicles. It is sometimes a matter of education, and obviously when you mention to people that they can get good money for scrap metal, this normally encourages a greener attitude!”

We were amazed to hear that breakers all around the country would accept any van for scrap metal, and would pay money for this. Speaking to United Vans of Bristol, it was clear that modern vehicles being built in England are not up to the recyclable standard of the new GM Motors vehicles, but there is a healthy attitude towards recycling vehicles from some large corporation who run fleets of vans, which is of course encouraging for the future.

Whether or not any British car manufacturers take on the gauntlet of GM Motors remains to be seen, but at least we are safe in the knowledge that there are great companies out there like UnitedVans.com who are willing to do all they can to recycle as many parts as they can salvage from old vehicles.

About United vans:

United Vans of Bristol is a licensed vehicle dismantling operation that recycles where possible and breaks old and unwanted vans for parts. The facility is one that promotes a more modern approach to vehicle recycling and disposal. They can be contacted through their website www.unitedvans.com.

Landline usage slumps as more users take up digital calling

November 24th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

-For Immediate Release-

  • VOIP services are rapidly becoming more popular amongst younger generation

While landline
dominance remains prevalent due to being a requirement for ADSL broadband, the most popular form of internet in the UK, recent studies suggest that less and less people are using landlines for calls and are instead opting to get the most basic landline package and only take incoming calls or ring out using the phone line as a last resort. Instead, people are moving to VOIP services that offer much better value for money.

VOIP stands for Voice Over Internet Protocol, which basically means using the internet to make phone calls. There are a number of different ways you can do this, although by far the most popular is using the Skype application, which allows you to make completely free calls over the internet to over Skype users. The program is available for all major operating systems and most mobile phones also have a version of Skype you can download.

The disadvantage of such a service is that you need to be at your PC to receive the call, or know in advance if someone is going to call you on Skype, which for many will defeat the object. However, Skype can also make calls directly to a landline as well! This way you can use your computer to connect to a standard phone and have an otherwise normal conversation, all the while saving money. The average cost of a Skype call is less than half what BT charge during peak times, and because it’s an internet service there are no peak times for calling!

Obviously such a service is only really useful if you already have a broadband connection set up, and unless you use cable internet you will need to continue to keep your old landline, so it’s may be a long time before we see line rental as a relic of the past, but for those people willing to give Skype and other VOIP services a try, you could find yourself saving plenty of cash.

Heating costs soaring: Energychoices.co.uk’s top tips to beat the British Gas price hike

November 17th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

British Gas is putting up gas and electricity costs by 7% from December, but you can beat the cost of rising energy prices, according to leading energy switching site Energychoices.co.uk.

Already this year, Brits have been wrapping up warmer at home, making hot drinks to avoid putting the heating on, but now prices are going up too – a double whammy for hard-pushed Brits.

Nevertheless British Gas has chosen this time to blame rising wholesale energy costs for the price increases. It says that prices have gone up by 25% since spring.

But you can fight the energy price hikes with some simple measures which will cut your overall costs, keep your energy usage down and keep the whole family toasty this winter.

Energychoices.co.uk’s top tips for keeping bills down:

  1. Go online and compare energy prices – you’ll need to enter the amount of rooms and people living in the house to get the most accurate idea of the best deals for you.
  2. Switch to online billing and paying by direct debit for your energy – don’t worry about being overcharged – much stricter rules are now in place so customers don’t build up a big credit on their energy bills.
  3. Do what you can to insulate your home – some energy-efficiency measures such as buying a draft excluder for your front door and covering keyholes are cheap but can pay dividends.

Chris Eagle, Energychoices.co.uk’s expert says:

“Just as we’ve had a tough week of cold temperatures and even snow in some places of the UK – we’ve had the major energy price hike that we’ve been warning consumers about for some time. “

“There’s no doubt that keeping energy bills down is the top of Brits financial concerns this winter, so it’s vital to get online and compare energy prices to ensure you get the best deal available.”

“One good piece of news is that British Gas is holding off on raising prices for its most vulnerable customers, including poorer pensioners until after the winter – but that won’t help struggling families as the countdownto Christmas begins.”

“I would also urge those in the mood, to act now to get free energy efficiency help from their supplier. British Gas, for example, is offering help with energy-efficient boilers, loft and cavity wall insulation and EnergySmart meters – which can help your monitor your usage.”

“EON has a scheme called Energy Fit which offers energy efficiency advice and goals to complete, plus an online tracker of your energy use – which may help pinpoint reasons why your bills have been high.”

EDF offers a free, online energy adviser for its customers and can offer information on improving your energy efficiency.

However, the most important piece of advice I can give Brits at the moment is don’t delay – get online and sign-up for a cheaper energy deal. Our customers have saved £265 when they switched energy suppliers during October.”

Current motorcycle breakdown options explained

November 15th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

Motorcycle breakdown cover can provide more than just peace of mind on the roads

No matter what model or make of your motorbike, no matter how much you’ve paid or how reliable it’s been, there’s a always a chance it will break down. Often these breakdowns will happen at home and won’t cause any major problems, but what happens if you breakdown on the way to an important event or work meeting? What do you do if you breakdown in a remote location or in hazardous weather conditions? Motorcycle breakdown cover can give you peace of mind and can save you money in the event of a breakdown. It can also cut down the times you have to spend waiting in the cold and the rain to be seen, and choosing the right company could mean a roadside repair is more likely.

What the best breakdown cover can offer you is mostly determined by how much you want to spend. Most insurers will offer three packages, from a basic simply roadside assistance package at the cheapest end of the spectrum, to an overall assistance package and the premium end, which often includes extras like full European cover. Obviously, not every feature of a policy will be required to every motorcyclist, so make sure you know exactly what you are and are not covered for before you make a decision.

This is especially crucial if you want to Compare Breakdown Cover online. While it’s good to be able to see a list of prices further research is always needed. While most companies offer the same features, different companies offer different things at premium and basic levels, so while a company might appear cheaper than another at first glance, you could find that it’s because their basic package offers much less cover than another more expensive company.

As well as finding out what’s covered, you should also remember to look at whether you want personal or vehicle cover depending on what other vehicles you use, and you might also want to choose a company based on their quick call out time, but remember – an average call out time and a guaranteed call out time are not the same thing and a strict set of terms and conditions normally apply to these numbers!

Cheap phone lines available from alternative providers

November 11th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

How moving away from mainstream telecoms providers can save you money

If someone asked you to name as many home phone providers as you could, how many could you come up with? We all know BT from their days of having a monopoly over our household phone lines, and most people have heard of the big name brands like Virgin Media and TalkTalk, but you might be surprised to learn just how many different options you have when it comes to choosing a landline, and that some of these alternatives can actually offer you a much better price than the bigger brands.

Companies like Primus and the Post Office can also offer you deals on your home phone line services, and because they have to try harder to get customers, they keep their prices much more competitive and often offer more value for money money. For example, comparing the standard packages of both Primus and BT, Primus gives you two extra hours of ‘off peak’ call time every day, charges less every month and have an increased free call deadline of about thirty minutes.
No one cheap phone line provider can be said to be completely superior to another, as it’s usually a matter of personal choice to decide which features you need and the price you are willing to pay for them, but it’s worth moving off the beaten track at least to compare the differences between these providers. You can save even more money by paying up front for your line rental rather than relying on a direct debit payment. Overall, moving away from BT, TalkTalk and Virgin could save you around £60 a year.

If you’re not quite ready to switch line rental providers yet, don’t forget there are other ways to save a bit of money. Switching to paperless billing is easy and can save you up to £15 if you are with BT, and opting to pay via direct debit can save another £15 if you aren’t already using the service. Also make sure you know exactly when peak periods start and finish. Many people waste a lot of money by making calls just an hour earlier than when their free time begins simply because they aren’t aware of the peak time period, which is longer than it used to be on most major phone providers.

Could Project Canvas spell the end of Sky and Virgin HD box subscriptions?

October 28th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases
  • SD YouView service to be released as early as next year
  • Future plans could include new HD on demand content to rival Virgin and Sky services

For many casual TV watchers, Freeview has been an easy, cheap no frills way of watching television, and it’s hard to remember the days when most households only had access to five channels. Nearly every television made now comes with a freeview box built in, and we’re not too far away from the digital switchover when analogue television will become a distant memory.

But freeview has it disadvantages, as well. There’s nowhere near as much content on freeview as you can find on a subscription package, on demand content can be difficult to access without extra hardware or simply viewing on a computer, and plans to introduce over-the-air HD to service are still very much in their infancy with only a few channels signed up to the idea. That’s despite the large number of HDTV’s being purchased in the UK right now.

Enter Project Canvas and YouView, a new service that could be released early as next year that hopes to solve some of those problems. YouView is the culmination of work between over 100 members including the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Freeview, Freesat, Channel 5 and Arqiva. The service aims to become a brand new way for people who don’t want to pay a subscription to watch on demand content from a wide variety of different companies.

Previously, watching on demand content from different producers and third parties was only really possible by visiting different website or through using a subscription such like a Sky Plus box or a Virgin HD box. With the release of YouView next year, customers will be able access a huge wealth of on demand content in one place. The only drawback to the service is that you do need to buy a new set-top box in order to use it, and you will of course need a broadband connection in order to stream the television.

There’s no word on pricing yet, but YouView plans to make the service available free of any contract and there have been suggestions that it may come included in some broadband packages from the companies involved in the service, such as TalkTalk.

While most content available through the box will be in standard definition (SD), future content will also be available in HD rivalling Virgin and Sky HD box services, although a very fast broadband connection will be needed to stream in HD.

Launched in 2005 the DigitalChoices.co.uk website has provided a wide range of features for people who wish to learn more about the often complicated world of digital television; everything from where to find the best cable experience to the latest Virgin HD Box deals.

European breakdown cover comparison can provide great savings for travellers

October 25th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

Comparing different euro cover policies can mean a big difference in the price you end up paying
Consider single trip policies if you’re not travelling more than once a year

October 22, 2009

Breaking down in the UK can be annoying, frustrating and expensive if you don’t already have a car or motorcycle breakdown cover policy, but as cold and wet as it can get during the English winter, at least you’re guaranteed to be able to speak to someone English to explain the problem and get it sorted out on the roadside ASAP. If you frequently travel in Europe, that isn’t always possible – you could be stuck trying to get past the communication barrier in a frustrating or even unsafe situation and you will almost certainly be paying above the odds for the privilege.

If you travel in Europe regularly, either for business or pleasure, taking out breakdown cover for your trips can give you that little bit of extra security in case something goes wrong, and save you from the worst parts of breaking down in a foreign country. If you’ve already got cover for the UK you can usually find your breakdown company can insure you in Europe for a limited period of time; usually up to 90 days.

If you don’t have car or motorcycle breakdown cover here in the UK, then you can either buy a single trip policy or look into actually getting yourself covered in the UK and adding European cover to your package. Adding full time European cover if you intend to travel to Europe less than twice a year will likely not be worth the extra money spent however, so look around and check out European breakdown cover comparison sites for different deals online before jumping in.

European breakdown cover will include 24/7 access to an English speaking call centre, usually situated in the UK itself, which will then organise local garages and mechanics for you. Depending on your policy you may also get anything from onward travel expenses paid to emergency accommodation, but these features are usually considered extras and you’ll be paying a lot more for them.

Above all though, comparing the prices is key. Prices fluctuate on European breakdown policies far more than they do on ones in the UK, so it’s easier to spot out a great deal, but also easier to end up paying more than you should. Always keep an eye out for limited time special offers and make sure you know exactly what you’re paying for.

The advantage of business energy price comparison

October 25th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

1 Not switching regularly puts SMEs at competitive risk
2 90 per cent of business contracts get rolled over automatically

We’re all subjected to adverts about switching our home bills; everything from our mobile phone contract to our broadband supplier or who handles our internet shopping. However, less effort is put into letting businesses know that comparing utilities for your business at regular intervals is vital. In fact, it’s arguably more vital than it is for residential customers, as refusing to be an active customer could be costing your business money and making it harder to compete against competitors that keep up with their energy prices.

Ofcom defines an ‘active customer’ as someone who is always looking out for the newest deals. That doesn’t mean you have to spend every day reading about energy news or browsing websites and blogs though, it simply means you need to be aware that switching regularly is a part of being a savvy customer and saving money, and using business energy price comparison sites is a vital part of that process.

Energy suppliers love to roll over contracts. That means that when your energy contract is coming to a close, it’s automatically renewed by the supplier, and they are legally allowed to increase their rates as they do this. Even worse, they don’t have to inform customers about this at all, which means that around 90 per cent of all business energy prices rise year on year without many companies even realising that they are paying more.

Before you can switch your energy supplier, you need to be outside of the time limit of your current contract, so moving energy suppliers isn’t just about choosing a good price, it’s about making sure roll over contracts don’t happen.
The best way to do this is to use a business energy switching service like Make It Cheaper, who will work on behalf of a business to find out when your contract runs out, and then switch you to a better deal at that time. That way you get all the benefits of having a brand new energy supplier and saving money without having to spend hours on the phone with your previous supplier trying to sort out contract dates.

2 Switching to another provider or moving to a bundle deal can reduce the costs

Many of us wish we could get away from having to worry about paying for a landline we hardly ever use, but unfortunately for millions of UK consumers a phone line is the only practical way to access the internet, and therefore they are still a big part of our household utilities. The UK narrowly avoided a landline tax this year thanks to a change in government, but unfortunately it looks like prices are on the rise again.

Both BT and TalkTalk have increased their line rental costs this month, as well as making it more expensive to call during the day time. Call connection charges have also been increased by BT, TalkTalk and Virgin, but those on special packages and bundle deals are often able to get these charges waived.

The cost of connecting a call outside of a bundle has risen to 10.9 for BT customers and 11.99p for those on Virgin. However, both companies offer reductions in their overall phone line costs if customers are also part of their other services, such as their broadband or television offers, so getting all your phone, TV and broadband from the same supplier can save you money.

Of course, another way to save money is to avoid the big providers altogether, and use comparison sites to check out deals from other suppliers. Anyone can supply a phone line into your house, so you’re not stuck with BT at all, and there are literally hundreds of companies that can supply broadband services.

Customers who shop around can save up to £60 a year on their line rental charges, even during a time when so many other customers are getting charged more.

Consumers are paying too much for homephone line rental

September 30th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Release WS

= For Immediate Release =

• Millions of consumers are paying more than they need to for phone lines that they rarely use
• Comparing line deals and switching providers will almost always save long term BT customers money

The costs are about to rise for people who are on BT and TalkTalk, who both plan to raise their charges starting from October this year, meaning another rise of bills from what are two of the most expensive line rental providers in the country – and some of the biggest. For customers on these networks, it will be the second rise this year for the monthly costs.

The best way to avoid facing these charges is to look at comparing landline deals online and finding a new supplier – there are far more out there than just the big names, and you can often find the best deals by shopping around and looking at smaller providers who may be able to offer you a more a niche package that better suits your own situation.
You can save money on your landline connection in a variety of ways. Firstly, always make sure you are paying for your landline via direct debit as other forms of payment will normally net some sort of monthly charge. Secondly, signing up for paper-less billing can also net you a small monthly saving as companies love to show how much they care about the evironment.

You can also start using your mobile more if you’re on a contract – most people avoid mobiles as they can be expensive, but if you’re on a contract there’s likely minutes left over every month that you could use instead of a landline. You should also be careful of when you use your phone – if you’ve got a contract that gives you free off peak calls never assume that off peak will start at 6pm – it could start as late as 9!

Comparing and switching is still the best way to save money on your phone line though, especially if you’ve never strayed from the bigger companies in the past.

Apple TV “Inherits Problems of Predecessor”

September 27th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Release WS

• Screen Digest suggest that Apply TV wont revolutionise television
• Believes this generation is not the time for Apple to conquer the television market

27 September, 2010

It’s only just been made available on the UK market, but media consultancy Screen Digest already believe that the new Apple TV box, which has recently been re-launched with a new slimmer design and an emphasis on enhanced streaming ability, isn’t going to be enough to win other the crowds and start a revolution in digital television similar to the phone revolution started by the entry of the Apple iPhone to the market.

The box is available for £99 and can stream content from across the net, including premium TV shows available through iTunes, YouTube content and Netflix movies. The idea behind is to bring broadband TV into a new era by coupling it with an intelligent interface and removing the need for a computer. However, many of the features of the box will already be familiar to anyone who owns another content on demand setup such as a Virgin HD box, or even a console with streaming features like the Xbox 360.

Analysts Dan Cryan and Tania Loeffler suggested that the product wasn’t really what most consumers were looking for, stating that:

“The cardinal rule being that internet-connectivity and streaming video services is still viewed by consumers as an additional feature of set top devices, rather than a reason to spend money on a specific piece of hardware.”
The analysts when on to suggest that the Apple TV entry was still an expensive option, despite its reduced price, and that it lacked any real differences when compared to other set top boxes that could also pause, rewind and stream content on demand, such as a Sky plus box.

Apple TV could eventually be refined enough to become a truly exciting product, but it’s probably not likely to happen in this latest update.

The Royal Tour That is Powered by Chip Fat Diesel

September 7th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in General News

Today sees the start of a grand tour of the UK. This grand tour though is not taken from an 18th Century novel or diary of that time, but instead is a real live modern grand tour instigated by Prince Charles. The main thrust of his journey around the UK is to promote the START initiative.

The means of transport for this road show will be the Royal Train and in keeping with the thrust of the initiative the train will be powered by vegetable oil based diesel. The world market in biodiesel is increasing year on year and the Brazilian producers have recently auctioned over 23million litres in the National Petroleum Agency (ANP) biodiesel auction, held in August this year. The ANP said that, in total around 430,000 tonnes of biodiesel had been sold by August 31st, 2010 in the first part of an auction that will be completed this week. This first lot was specifically reserved those producers in the Combustivel Social Program, this means that they would have had to buy their oil seeds from small family farms only.

The presence of the Prince on this promotional tour has already sparked controversy with regard to the cost of running the train. Many have remarked that the journey in itself is not green and therefore detracts from the initiative itself.

We contacted the owner of United Vans of Bristol for a comment on this initiative and the use of biodiesel. He commented “It is great when an initiative like this comes to the public’s attention, quite often it seems that we need someone like Prince Charles to attract enough publicity to make the initiative work. The whole biodiesel situation is not one that I would like to comment on. Suffice it to say that it has its proponents as well as its opponents.”

The Prince’s journey is expected to last for 5 days and will cost the taxpayer around £80,000. Whether you support this initiative or not it seems that it will create much furore over the next 5 days.

About United Vans of Bristol:

Bristol’s United Vans is a licensed vehicle dismantlers and recycling yard. Whenever you feel the need to declare ‘sell my van‘ they should be your first port of call for fair advice on the value of your van. Many satisfied clients have approached them to find the Vauxhall Brava value and how much their old transit t350 is worth. They have a reputation for recycling a high percentage of the materials recovered from their dismantling facility.

Teenagers spending more time on the phone

September 1st, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

• Large families could see big rise in bills if they don’t look into different providers
• Teenagers phone usage still high despite the internet and use of Facebook

1st September, 2010

It’s an old cliché that teenagers spend all the time on the phone, and these days Facebook has taken over from the telephone as a way for many of them to keep in touch – which is great news as it means less money to spend on phone bills. However, anyone who says the invention of the internet has stopped teenagers chatting on the phone regularly at all hours has obviously never lived with a teenager.

In fact, a recent press release from the post office has suggested that there are some big time phone hours logged by teenagers across the UK, so parents should be thinking about their bills. Calling a home phone during the evening isn’t a big deal, but many teenagers call their friends directly from a home phone TO a mobile, which might save them money on their bills, but will see yours sky rocket. With a large household teenagers chatting to friends on mobiles can cost as much as £40 a month according to recent studies.

The best way to keep these costs down is to search out a provider that’s specially geared to this kind of phone use.

Choosing a provider other than BT is often a good way to save money as they are one of the most expensive landline phone rental companies around, but it can also save you more because other companies may offer special deals for mobile calls or allow you to set up many different ‘friend’ numbers which will give you a substantial discount.

This way you can save money on your monthly bills without having to put up with teenage angst because you’ve had to remove phone privileges!

Comparing European and UK Breakdown cover can reduce costs

August 30th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

• Breakdown cover is an essential part of running a car, especially if you car is more than 10 years old
• Comparing online should be the first port of call for anyone wanting to save money on the service.

August 30, 2010

Car breakdown cover isn’t something we usually think about as much as other things to do with our car. There’s so many legal requirements to running a vehicle like insurance, tax and MOTs that stuff that isn’t absolutely essential might fall by the wayside. However, unless you’re running a brand new car that comes with its own breakdown cover, you should think thing strongly about getting breakdown cover if you haven’t yet done so.

Even if you think you know your way around a car, breakdown cover is essential. Sure, many road users know how to change spare tire, but even with such a simple task things can still go wrong. Bolts can get frozen or rusted over and very quickly what should have taken a few minutes becomes a task that takes hours. It’s frustrating and can even be dangerous depending on the area that you’ve broken down.

That’s why getting breakdown cover long in advance can save you a lot of money. Now that you can compare cover online you no longer have to dedicate hours of your life to searching out the best deal, and you can even find exclusive online offers when you carry out a breakdown cover comparison on the internet that you would never have received over the phone.

Then there’s the ‘hidden’ savings that you don’t always think about, such as the amount of time having a reliable breakdown service can save. You’ll never have to worry about being late for an important meeting or job interview or getting stuck in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night. Don’t forget that if you use your car abroad a lot, searching for a complete European breakdown insurance package will probably be cheaper than trying to buy separate deals.

Cheap Office Furniture upgrades website

August 27th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

For over ten years Cheap Office Furniture has supplied customers throughout the United Kingdom quality office furniture at wonderful low prices. Indeed COF was one of the first online retailers of office desks, office chairs and modular office components. The site which had remained in the same format for almost ten years was designed at a time when computer screen resolutions were low and servers could not quickly process complicated graphics and images. Times changed and items such as higher definition photographs and 3D graphics have become the expected norm. Still customers of Cheap Office Furniture were accustomed to the original navigation.

Cheap Office furniture has launched a revised design that is far better suited to today’s wide screen higher resolution formats. The new look allows visitors to the site to choose from an expanded product line without having to scroll down the pages. Plus the high tech sculptured graphics are simply more pleasant to view.

The world of online retail shoppes has changed dramatically in the last ten years. People rightfully expect that places they shop online offer a look and feel to their websites equal to the graphics presented on television. Cheap Office Furniture intends to keep pace with all of these new visual trends and requirements.

Which is best Single trip euro cover or annual?

August 6th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

As complicated as finding the best local breakdown cover may be, it seems that choosing from the providers of European breakdown cover is even more so. After completing a European Breakdown cover comparison we are of the opinion that the key lies in paying but once a year for the most all inclusive cover policy one can lay their hands on. Begin by recognising that very often European breakdown cover for single trip protection can oft times cost nearly as much as year round cover. Next, factor in the proportionate cost of that cover as if it were simply part of a larger protection plan. Very often the cost of a single trip cover plan is the same as a yearly addendum. Now consider that if your vehicle is more than 15 years old the only practical way to get breakdown cover is if that cover is based on your person and good for any vehicle. Here is where the savings truly begin.

A point to remember is that a European breakdown cover single trip protection can easily cost 60 pounds for 90 days. Yet the AA charges an additional 90 pound for a year’s euro cover when included in a full service cover plan. And this option is available for plans based on the driver and any vehicle they may own. In this way one may even find themselves inexpensively protected with motorcycle breakdown cover as well.

Sky Launches a dedicated 3D channel

August 4th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

The assortment of Sky TV packages has now been added to so as to include a package which includes 3D TV. For those unawares popular movies such as Shrek and Alice in Wonderland can now be viewed in 3D at home provided one has a pair of 3rd dimension viewing glasses and a matching TV. I understand the basic principle behind 3D viewing. That is that if the same object is photographed from two different angles and if those two angles are superimposed, a realistic depth can be viewed.

What I don’t understand is why existing digital films cannot be adjusted so as to achieve this effect on a non-digital television? The 3D glasses combine the two images into one. Why can we not place these two separately blurry images onto any telly and put on our special glasses? Apparently not, we will need a 3D TV and prices start at around 1200 pounds for these. Also needed is a Sky HD box, but that is furnished gratis from Sky TV. Sky has dedicated an entire channel to 3D broadcasts. Virgin Media has a 3D channel very close to launch and no doubt the success of the Sky endeavor will determine how quickly we see 3D as standard in the Virgin HD box. Consider that the time span for HDTV to become commonplace after its introduction was a full ten years before it became a popular norm. Also consider that in the 1950s 3D movies came and went as consumers eventually rebelled against the eyewear involved.

Government agencies assist in verifying phone lines

August 3rd, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

When you consider that in the last year almost 3 million United Kingdom consumers were unable to resolve problems with their home phone or broadband provider in less than 12 weeks you can easily see why new regulation was needed. New regs will give Ofcom the power to enforce their decisions in the way of fines and deadlines given to any UK provider falling under their jurisdiction. Very few UK home phone landline users are aware that there are currently two very efficient free agencies available to assist them with telecoms problems. These are, CISAS and Otelo. Both of these offices serve the public by acting as intermediaries in disputes. Until recently these agencies were hampered in that they might suggest actions to the telecommunications companies but those suggestions lacked force. Still over half of the disputes taken to these agencies were resolved to the consumer’s satisfaction as opposed to a mere 9% of those disputes in which a compromise was attempted directly by the consumer to the provider.

Take for example a simple problem with a landline connection. The customer asks for a callout because the line has severe static noise. The provider informs them that the noise is from their internal lines and thus they are not at fault. If the consumer does not have the means to verify this how can they clear the noise from the phone line? Invariably they must pay a callout charge to a third party repairman, who informs them that the source of the static is at the street cabinet. How do they possibly get refunded for the error in diagnosis? They can’t, however the liaison agency could have forced the provider to first physically check their system.

MobileChoices.co.uk Comment on the New Roaming Charges in the EU

July 7th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

July 2010
=============

On the 1st July 2010 a new era of roaming charges dawned for European mobile phone users. The EU has capped call costs and internet usage whilst roaming around Europe. For anyone that has returned home from a European holiday, only to find a massive bill waiting for them, this will be welcome news. The situation over the last few years has been disorganised at best and, at worst, has sometimes seemed deliberately opaque.

The ruling from Europe, which has been set for this July since last year, has limited the maximum costs for making and receiving calls whilst abroad. It has also imposed a maximum monthly amount at which your network provider must disconnect you from being able to connect to the internet. This has nominally been set at 50 euros (currently around £41). The ruling also makes it a responsibility on the part of your provider to let you know when you have reached 80% of this amount. There is also a provision for users to raise or lower this limit if they wish to.

The business development manager, Simon Piper, at Mobilechoices.co.uk, said: “These new rules add transparency to a previously complex charging system and put consumers in the driving seat. For the first time, they know how much their phone will cost them while abroad.”

The limitations of the previous year’s caps have been removed and now all costs associated with using a mobile phone abroad have been defined in terms of maximum amounts that anyone can be charged. Calling your voicemail is now free to all and making a call will not cost you more than 39 eurocents and picking up a call from home, something many of us have never done due to the high cost, will now be limited to 15 eurocents. The receiving of a text message is to continue to be free and the sending of one will be capped to 11 eurocents.

This marks the end of moves started in 2006 to limit the unfair charges levied on holiday makers all over Europe. The process has been drawn out over several years with consultations and proposals, but thankfully for all consumers the end is here and we now all know where we stand with our European roaming charges.

Why you shouldn’t wait to make a UK and European breakdown cover comparison

July 3rd, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

Recently a pair of motorists who had suffered a flat tyre on the M5 thought that perhaps the best place to change said tyre was directly in the fast lane. As motorists drove by trying to avoid them the pair kept right on attempting to loosen the wheel. Yes, most people would be bright enough to move their vehicle over to the safety lane but these two were not.

No one wants to have to deal with a breakdown on the M5 but over the course of a driving lifetime these sort of mishaps will occur. When they do the best way to deal with them is to have in place breakdown cover for roadside assistance. Very often the lug nuts fastening a wheel are frozen due to rust or over tightening. The tools included with the spare tyre are seldom powerful enough to loosen frozen bolts.

Plus many people are simply not physically able to change a tyre on their own. A basic breakdown cover comparison reveals that the average cost for a year’s cover is approximately 100 pounds, this is for a package including home start, tow home from a distant city and even European breakdown cover single trip protection. For those who travel abroad more frequently a European breakdown cover comparison will be necessary so as to insure finding the best value. Don’t wait until you are stranded on a major cross country highway before purchasing a comprehensive breakdown cover policy.

How parents can save money on landline usage by their teens

July 1st, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

A recent press release from The Post Office stating that children in the United Kingdom are racking up big time on the telephone really should not come as a surprise to anyone. I mean honestly, teenagers spending time on the telephone, no one should be shocked by this. No doubt when the first telephone was invented the second user after Alexander Graham Bell, was a teenage girl calling her friends.

What is newsworthy about this is that landline usage by children in households exceeds one hour per week. If one does not have an unlimited calling plan or if these calls are going out to mobiles, the price per week for one child’s home phone line use can be up to 10 pounds per week! If that household has three children of social ages, the amount can be horrendous. The easiest way to limit these fiscal damages is to sign up for an unlimited talk plan from Virgin Media or any other major UK landline connection provider.

Virgin Media is currently offering free calls from landlines to mobiles within their network. At the very least one should make sure their home phone provider offers a plan for free evening and weekend calling. Needless costs for phone calls between friends and family members can easily top 1000 pounds a year if unwatched. One simply must make an online home phone pricing and service comparison before signing any long term phone line commitment.

Excellent values coming about in Sky TV packages

June 28th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

With the World Cup finally underway most UK TV viewers are well ensconced into whichever method of watching affords them the best value and more importantly the best picture. For many this will be Freeview with an HD set top box. Until you watch World Cup Football in high definition you have never seen a match. The clarity is astounding. To that end, all Sky TV packages include a great deal for High Def TV.

Over 2.5 million customers in the United Kingdom are enjoying World Cup Matches in HD on Sky TV. All that this requires is a low cost Sky subscription and a Sky HD box. Unlike Freeview where you must purchase the HD set top box yourself for around 200 pounds, Sky TV packages include free set up and equipment. Sky seems to always have one type of incentive plan or another underway. Right now they are offering a free 50 pound Marks and Spence gift card for new sign ups.

After the World Cup is over and as we all hope England is the ultimate victor you will be able to use your Sky or Virgin HD box to enjoy thousands of hours of other fine programming. In fact Virgin Media is preparing to join Sky in offering true 3D television. Part of the fun of today’s digitally created movies is being able to rewatch them in the original theatre style 3D. Sky TV and Virgin Media allow you to do just that.

Michael Phillips, product director at Homephonechoices.co.uk comments on Ofcom’s announcement of cheaper charges for UK consumers to end phone contracts:

June 21st, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

Michael Phillips, product director at Homephonechoices.co.uk commented:

“Ofcom’s move to reduce early exit fees will definitely make it worthwhile for many home phone customers to switch providers early if they are unhappy with the service they are currently receiving. Switching home phone provider is very easy and usually takes about 14 days. Millions of households in the UK have never switched provider, so we think its about time they did – the savings will soon mount up.”

Homephonechoices.co.uk’s top tips for switching home phone provider:

1. Check your phone line: “Cable phone customers, or those on an LLU network, can face added complications or costs when it comes to switching providers. They will need to have an active BT-compatible phone line installed or re-connected before they can take advantage of the full range of home phone providers on offer. Remember, other providers in addition to BT can arrange this for you.

2. Think ‘literally’: “Try to realistically consider your needs as a home phone customer. If you are working during the day then you’ll probably just need a standard evening and weekend call package, but if you are mostly at home during the day then a cheap anytime calls package will be more suitable for you.

3. Pick and mix: “Many home phone providers now offer ‘add-ons’ for people who want extra features such as cheap international calls or an additional phone line, allowing home phone customers to effectively ‘build’ their ideal home phone package.

4. Compare online: “The best deals are usually accessed online, so ensure you use a reliable price comparison website to check what packages are available in your postcode area.”

Van Breakers Yards Help Environment by Recycling Scrap Vehicles.

June 14th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

The world of recycling and our ongoing efforts to help the planet recover from the past decades of over use of resources is often concentrated on what waste we produce from the household environment. However, the legislation surrounding the control of end of life vehicles has produced very positive results. We can now consider our local van scrap yard and van breakers to be part of the solution and not part of the problem. The separation of the different materials in the vehicle recycling environment has been the key to the ongoing success.

The local van scrap yard is a business that, like any business, has to make money to survive. When we take our old vehicles to them and receive a small amount of cash for them it can often seem like the amount is almost too small to be bothered with. But when you consider the amazing variety of materials that they must have the facilities to dispose of, you can see that the amount you receive is fair allowing for legislation and profit margins.

The list of materials is quite comprehensive.

Obviously there is Metal, the average car is 76%, by weight and most of this is sheet steel. There are other metals such as aluminium and magnesium and in total about 98% of the metals in a vehicle are recycled.

Plastics are a big part of vehicles and the content of plastics has risen by 25% in the last 20 years. The lightweight nature of this material and its ease of moulding make it an inevitable part of today’s vehicle manufacture. As we all know from our domestic recycling, this material is hard to dispose of and recycle. The wide range of polymer types in the average vehicle means that recycling is difficult and more often than not this gets ground and sent to landfill.

Fluids that help in the operation of the vehicle are a major concern for the environmentalist. The recovery of these fluids is a vitally important part of vehicle dismantling as the inappropriate disposal of oils is a major concern with regard to the environment.

Catalytic convertors are a valuable and as yet under used recoverable product from vehicle dismantling. The unit contains steel and precious metals such as Platinum, rhodium and palladium. The use of platinum and rhodium in Western Europe is almost exclusively centred around the production of catalytic convertors – over 65% of platinum and 90% of rhodium – this makes the business of recovery and disposal a viable and ever growing business.

Batteries are a resource that has been recycled for many decades and as such the average vehicle dismantling yard is well versed in the collection and recovery of this valuable resource. Although it is estimated that 90% are currently recovered and recycled there are still the missing 10% that are thought to still be in the vehicle when it is crushed. Legislation is expected to reduce this occurrence to nearer zero.

There are of course many other materials that need to be dealt with by a vehicle dismantler, but these are the most obvious and constitute the largest portion of any dismantled vehicle.

The van scrap yard has much to contend with legislation being one major factor in everyday business. The best of them also want to go beyond the legislation and do the best that they can do for the planet and the environment. it is no wonder that they are places of mixed feelings for some people, just remember that some of them are run by the good guys.
