Reasons to switch phone providers beyond incentives for cheap phone calls

February 25th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

It is extremely tempting to switch home phone providers when one sees a great deal advertised. Indeed, switching your home phone company can often save hundreds of pounds per year. This is especially true when one bundles home phone with other desired services such as broadband. But there are factors above and beyond the ability to make cheap phone calls that need to be considered. One of these factors is the amount a company will charge you to cancel your contract. There can be a dozen good reasons you want to opt out of your current deal. Often one has tried a lower priced phone company and determined that their service was simply not reliable enough. Many times we are interested in another company’s bundling offers for services we also require such as TV and Mobile Phones. In general, switching companies from time to time is a good way to make sure you are paying the lowest prices and receiving the highest amount of service per pound. Most United Kingdom phone line providers offer fair and competitive prices. But cost of cancellation can be as high from some providers as simply calling in the entire amount of the extended contract. This is an obvious sign of a lower quality firm. A quality phone line company will ask you to pay a reasonable amount to end your contract early. Another option when one wishes to cancel a home phone service contract is to simply cut your service back to a bare minimum. Most home phone companies will not charge you a penalty to scale back so long as you remain a customer.

Haiti Kids Kino Project Set To Travel to Haiti to Help Haitian Children – Dontaions Welcomed (Bristol, UK)

February 12th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

=Bristol, UK=

THE HAITI KIDS KINO PROJECT is a voluntary project travelling from the UK to the Dominican Republic to set up a temporary social cinema for children affected by the Haiti earthquakes.

The Haiti Kids Kino Project is a micro-humanitarian goodwill project to provide an opening for escape, community, emotion and social occasion to a people and a place devastated by natural disaster. The Cube Cinema, a volunteer-run organisation in Bristol is sending it’s first team of volunteers over to the Dominican Republic at the end of February. Offering a mixture of screenings and workshops for the Haitian children, the project will be a cultural exchange between children in Haiti and the UK.

Haitian children are experiencing damage and despair, and further anxiety can grow through inaction, loneliness, isolation and boredom. Sharing the experience of making and watching films, while offering a temporary respite, the Haiti Kids Kino Project will contribute to quality of life through creating, sharing, reflecting, forging friendships and connections.

Esther May Campbell, BAFTA award winning director and Cube volunteer says:

“The Cube has always had a fantastically, hands on approach to things. As a provider of grass roots cultural exchange, this is the most direct humanitarian response it can offer. When children, who have suffered these kind of traumas have nothing to do, desperation and anxiety levels shoot through the roof. The Cube has skills, passion and networks, enabling us to create a mobile cinema for young people, intending to offer community, hope and distraction.”

This is intended to be a long term project that becomes a Haitian led and self sufficient initiative. The Cube project is raising funds to equip them with screens, cameras and films, vaccines and to cover travel costs.

Insight on major UK internet providers in broadband reviews

February 11th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

Talk Talk has reversed its position on charging incoming Tiscali customers higher rates for their broadband connections unless they opted to sign up for an extended term with Talk Talk. In a reversal of their earlier statements, Talk Talk, who merged with Tiscali late last year has agreed to honour all existing Tiscali contract offers and pricing that they inherited from Tiscali last year. A great deal of the Talk Talk motivation comes from the recently learned knowledge that Tiscali customers with time left on their contracts are not released from those contracts as a consequence of the Talk Talk, Tiscali merger. This means that both Tiscali customers and Talk Talk must honour the existing terms of agreements. Talk Talk had planned to add a 5 pound per month surcharge to incoming Tiscali accounts. Tiscali customers who were influenced by the proposed tariff increase will now be offered the opportunity to adjust their contract with Talk Talk accordingly and are being offered six months broadband service at half price by way of inconvenience compensation.
The information in this report was accessed from Broadbandchoices.co.uk. Broadband Choices serves United Kingdom residents with free broadband reviews and tools for broadband comparison. Beyond the ability to easily compare broadband, the Broadband Choices web site also offers important informational articles touching on all areas of pricing and service relative to both home and mobile broadband. Visitors to the Broadband Choices web site can take advantage of the free broadband comparison tool that creates reports of localized home broadband pricing comparison.

Talk Talk backs up their good reputation among phone providers

February 10th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

When Talk Talk took over Tiscali last year they announced that Tiscali customers would have to pay an extra 5 pounds per month beginning in January 2010 for the privilege of becoming Talk Talk customers. Upon receiving much negative commentary on this move, Talk Talk rescinded the decision and welcomed their new customers without additional charge. This is exactly the type of service that marks Talk Talk as an overwhelming favorite among United Kingdom landline providers. Homephonechoices.co.uk reports that Talk Talk has been selected as the UK’s best UK phone provider in their 2010 home phone service awards. Rival triple play seller SKY won the award among UK phone line providers for best overall home communications provider, based primarily on the customer satisfaction ratings of their bundles including TV channels. Of almost ten thousand surveyed participants 63% remarked that they are displeased with their current providers customer service and plan to switch companies at some point in the new year so as to take advantage of better offers for cheap phone calls.
Yet, among all this dissatisfaction, Talk Talk customers went out of their way to comment on how pleased they were with Talk Talk’s pricing and home phone service. This is somewhat surprising considering that Talk Talk is not the UK’s cheapest home phone service provider. That title belongs to Primus with their Primus Saver plan. The Primus Saver plan currently offers both the lowest monthly line rental and anytime calling charges.

Study by Green Flag Shows A Decrease in Vehicle Maintenance.

February 10th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Release WS

Overall improvement and reliability of automobiles being manufactured has resulted in a somewhat lackadaisical approach to car maintenance. This has created an odd dynamic in that more people are opting to purchase breakdown cover as a fallback position for the likelihood of a mechanical malfunction while on the road.

Surveys by both Green Flag Breakdown and RAC coincide and confirm that many United Kingdom car owners are opting to ignore obvious mechanical faults. 42% of all United Kingdom drivers admit to getting behind the wheel of their car, knowing that at least one item necessary for proper running is in poor condition or approaching a state of failure. 73% of UK drivers admit that essential mechanical functions such as brakes and transmission are only checked once a year during their annual MOT inspection. This has led to an increase in popularity of information from breakdown cover comparison websites such as breakdownchoices.co.uk.

Apparently, cost of upper level breakdown cover including services such as tow home and home start is sufficiently low in price so as to justify less maintenance on one’s vehicle. Of course this approach does result in overall increases in the cost of breakdown cover, as that cost is created and based upon United Kingdom breakdown cover overall gross expenditures for callouts. Breakdown cover as with any form of insurance is based upon a pooling of resources and division of same resources relative to need. As consumers create a greater need for roadside assistance by not following up on automotive maintenance, prices for cover invariably rise to compensate. With this in mind, anyone would be wise to compare breakdown cover to find the best value available today.

Broadband comparison can yield major savings for small businesses

February 9th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Release WS

A report from Broadband Choices as a compilation of information given by Business Link in London states that over 45% of all small to medium size businesses in the United Kingdom do not have in place a web site. And of the 55% that do have web sites created, only a very small percentage (5%) of the total use of those sites is for anything other than an informational weigh station. Most of the businesses examined site the perceived cost of a broadband connection as their main reason for not having created a web site.

If you realize that a simple broadband comparison, as made available on the Broadband Choices web site, would allow them to see that high speed business broadband connections can be purchased for as little as 30 pounds per month. Of course, especially when dealing with the business sector, that need to compare broadband pricing is essential. Far too many companies claim to offer specialized broadband service for business and are merely brokers of the readily available services from the United Kingdom’s leading broadband providers such as BT, Plusnet and Virgin Media.

It is recommended that anyone investigating broadband for their home or business take the time to study many of the excellent broadband reviews found on the many broadband comparison websites. This will virtually guarantee that one contracts only with qualified, substantial and reliable broadband providers. Many of the larger United Kingdom broadband providers also serve as direct Internet portals furnishing business e-mail addresses and website creation assistance.

A few simple reasons to check breakdown cover options before purchase

February 9th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Release WS

Should you purchase breakdown cover based on your automobile and any driver that might be using it or should you base your breakdown cover on yourself as an individual using any automobile you may happen to be driving? Most people do not realize that breakdown cover companies either charge a premium or refuse to cover entirely automobiles over 12 years of age. The reason for this is obvious, an older car is more likely to breakdown and every time the cover company pays for a call out, their profits decrease.

But this flies in the face of your reason for purchasing breakdown cover and your ability to compare breakdown cover from different companies. Even with the assistance a comparison website, breakdown cover comparison, one might be unable to effectively choose the best company if upon deciding on a level of coverage, their policy was negated by their vehicle being unacceptable.

Fortunately one may purchase breakdown cover based on their person which allows them roadside assistance regardless of the age of the vehicle or even if they do not own that vehicle. This type of breakdown cover is perfect for those who own more than one car or a car and a motorcycle. Motorbike breakdown cover is often purchased as a separate entity, but when one uses a motorcycle for occasional recreational use that becomes an excessive and needless expense. At Breakdown Choices, all of your options for purchasing cover are completely explained and comparable using simple cross reference charts.

Fresh plans for competition from UK phone providers

February 8th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Release WS

Beginning on April 1st 2010, Virgin Media customers using their home phone service will be able to call Virgin Media mobile phone customers completely free of charge. This would seem to emphasize the trend from phone line providers across the United Kingdom to find new and innovative ways to compete with one another indirectly. Obviously such a move will motivate current Virgin Media household customers towards taking advantage of great deals for cheap phone calls when combined with broadband and television service to further those savings. Because Virgin Media is one of the few United Kingdom home communications companies that bundles home phone and mobile phone service, this latest promotion will certainly motivate non Virgin Media mobile phone users to switch providers.

This new system allows for a simple and virtually free way for family members to stay in touch with one another. Consider that this represents a bold move from Virgin Media, as it will allow four million of its customers free land line calls to Virgin Mobile owners. One hopes that other landline providers such as BT and Talk Talk will at some point follow suit. Indeed, it seems the fastest way to get your current home phone service provider to cut prices or offer more services is for them to be forced by fierce competition. For the time being United Kingdom home phone users will need to be content to base their savings upon simple bundling of home communications services. This remains the most sure way of saving money.

United Vans Of Bristol Comment On Illegal Scrap Yards

February 7th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in General News

The news yesterday that Sheffield Council is to prosecute Susanne Briggs and Lee Mayfield for not seeking planning permission for their illegal scrap yard has caused the spectre of dodgy scrap yards to rear its ugly head. The pair that lives in Shiregreen, Sheffield, have turned their neighbourhood into a nightmare for local residents. The street that they live on is both residential and narrow and yet at times it is reported that there have been up to 15 vehicles at once parked along its suburban verges waiting to unload scrap metal, wood and tyres at the address.

This situation has been going on for two years according to some local residents and has meant that the street has been reduced to the status of a lorry strewn scrap yard. Sheffield Council have attended the site to gain photographic evidence to support the legal action that they are currently undertaking. This consists of prosecution by the city’s magistrate’s court for ignoring a notice to seek planning permission for their unauthorised operation and a separate notice to cease their activities issued by the council. Failure to comply with these requirements could see the pair served with an injunction and in the worst case scenario further prosecution and a fine.

The vehicle dismantling industry has taken a lot of action over the last 10 years to clean up its image and to conform to new laws regarding waste disposal and vehicle dismantling codes of conduct. The perception two decades ago of the scrap yard as a place best left to big men with oily clothes and Alsatian dogs has by and large disappeared to be replaced more and more by the new breed of efficient vehicle dismantlers that make their profit by correctly disposing of vehicle waste through dismantling for car and van spares and selling separated metals and plastics to recycling facilities that buy quality raw material for their processes. This story does nothing to help the progress of most of the industries ‘good guys’.

The owner of United vans commented “This story has nothing good in it as regards our industry’s reputation. These people have made a quick buck at the expense of their environment and neighbours peace and quiet. The fact that it has taken two years for this to come to legal proceedings is the most shocking part of it. We, as an industry, have enough pressure on us to clean up our act, without this sort of negative publicity. Long gone are the days of the fly-by-night scrap man and quite rightly so, from many different perspectives, not least the environmental impact, this sort of operation has to be stamped out and stamped out quite firmly. If you have an old vehicle for disposal just look out for the ‘vans wanted‘ signs around your local town or city and take it there, check that they have the relevant licences to do what they do and allow your old vehicle to meet its final resting place knowing that perhaps some of it will end up as car or van parts for someone else’s vehicle – lengthening the life of their vehicle by the demise of yours.”

The current attitude towards responsible living with regard to our environment is an ever growing attitude for many today. The responsibility for disposing of our waste rests with all of us. So do the right thing whenever you dispose of anything other than household rubbish. Find out where to get rid of it safely and recycle where possible. It’s up to all of us!
