Broadband comparison must now include fibre optic based providers

March 7th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

Anyone wishing to compare broadband services will want to take note that Eclipse Internet is offering a select set of two broadband packages arriving this April. The super high speed broadband included in the pricing allows for download speeds of up to 40MB and uploads approaching 10 Mb. The projected slowest downloads will be in the area of 12 Mb. Although the pricing of 39.95 pounds for Eclipse Fibre Basic and 49.95 Pounds for Eclipse Fibre Pro seem a bit out of reach for home use. Business users will note that this is an excellent price relative to speed value. The amount of download allowed within the Pro packages is 60GB which should be sufficient for any small to medium sized business need.
Eclipse is providing these speeds by means of FTTC technology. This is not as scientific as it sounds. FTTC stands for “fibre to the cabinet”. In this case, the cabinet being the curbside telephone connection box. A basic broadband comparison reveals that Eclipse is already setting the standard for UK home internet connection speeds with their Home Pro package costing just over 30 pounds per months and providing for 50Gb of download. Remember as we receive faster download speeds it becomes very easy to exceed our allotment of total download. One must keep a careful eye on any deal that does not provide for unlimited downloads. Overall, fibre optic cable will soon bring unlimited downloads to every UK user. We will probably have to wait until fibre cable is also connected from the cabinet to the home so as to facilitate 100Mb speeds. Once we are all downloading and streaming data at these speeds, unlimited downloads will be a practical necessity. When this happens we may all find ourselves studying broadband reviews to see which UK broadband company sets the record for highest download speeds to the home.

TV packages are fast becoming all in one budget entertainment plans

March 6th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

Last year British households averaged 3 hours and 45 minutes each of television viewing time per day. Before you jump in thinking that might be a colossal waste of time consider that the education aspects of TV as made available from hundred plus channel cable TV providers such as Virgin Media eat up a good bit of that average. Plus consider that another large percentage of our viewing time is spent watching movies so as to save the costs of going out. TV packages from providers such as SKY TV make it pound foolish to run out to the cinema every weekend. Yes we are all watching more television but we now live in the information age. Our lives are affected instantly by events around the world, events we are made aware of through TV. And should we be remiss in our viewing, Digital TV recorders and on demand TV have us seated in front of the telly during convenient hours. On demand TV coupled with the use of recorders is another factor increasing our viewing time.
Alright we admit that it is not all educational programming. The most watched UK show for all of 2009 was the Britain’s Got Talent Finale with Susan Boyle. That was entertaining stuff and we are watching more TV simply because TV has gotten better. There are more channels and more choices. Digital TV programmes accommodate everyone’s personal taste. Whether you are after FA premier matches or a look at Simon Cowell’s scowl there is something good on every night.

Fresh plans for large mobile broadband coverage at a fixed price

March 3rd, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

When I first heard about Orange Mobile’s special pricing for iPhone users abroad I was thrilled. Pricing is set at just 5 Pounds for 10MB. This is probably the lowest rate for roaming the continent using my iPhone possible I thought. But now I am not so sure. Virgin Media has just announced a program for mobile broadband coverage abroad called Travel Pass. Basic rates are 4 pounds for an hour’s use or 10 pounds per day with a cap of 10Mb download. Obviously these deals are not designed price-wise so that one can download movies in Rome. The purpose of both the Orange and the Virgin Media plans is to allow United Kingdom customers of these companies to travel abroad taking the internet with them at a fixed price. As with all broadband pricing from at home high speed broadband to pay as you go mobile broadband the pricing of these broadband abroad deals can be a bit confusing. It seems like the Orange Mobile deal is around half the cost of the Virgin deal. Our recommendation is that anyone looking into these mobile broadband packages do a little research online and make sure that their current plan is compatible with Travel Pass from Virgin Media or that they opt in before they travel with Orange Mobile. A simple search online using the terms Orange Mobile abroad and Virgin Media abroad will yield some helpful results.

Green Flag Breakdown compared to larger companies for switching breakdown cover

March 2nd, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

Loyalty to your current breakdown cover company may come at too high a price. Many United Kingdom breakdown cover customers are finding that the process of automatic renewal results in their paying far more than a new customer pays for the same degree of cover. Why is this? To begin with, when you renew your cover you are paying the full retail. You are not taking advantage of any seasonal discounts or special offers designed to be competitive. This alone will amount to around a 25% over payment. Next consider that almost every UK breakdown cover offers a discount if you renew online. This can be as much as 42% of itself. An interesting point is that the company most noted for renewing customers at full scale is AA. But AA offers some of the largest sign up online discounts so even if you simply wanted to stay with a company you would still be better off to not automatically renew. One simply must compare breakdown cover prices before they renew. A basic breakdown cover comparison as made available on the internet will give you far more cost effective cover choices. You may opt for a smaller company like Green Flag Breakdown so as to receive more cover features for relative cost. Or you may discover that your current company is treating you fairly. But you won’t know for sure until you compare.
