When I first heard about Orange Mobile’s special pricing for iPhone users abroad I was thrilled. Pricing is set at just 5 Pounds for 10MB. This is probably the lowest rate for roaming the continent using my iPhone possible I thought. But now I am not so sure. Virgin Media has just announced a program for mobile broadband coverage abroad called Travel Pass. Basic rates are 4 pounds for an hour’s use or 10 pounds per day with a cap of 10Mb download. Obviously these deals are not designed price-wise so that one can download movies in Rome. The purpose of both the Orange and the Virgin Media plans is to allow United Kingdom customers of these companies to travel abroad taking the internet with them at a fixed price. As with all broadband pricing from at home high speed broadband to pay as you go mobile broadband the pricing of these broadband abroad deals can be a bit confusing. It seems like the Orange Mobile deal is around half the cost of the Virgin deal. Our recommendation is that anyone looking into these mobile broadband packages do a little research online and make sure that their current plan is compatible with Travel Pass from Virgin Media or that they opt in before they travel with Orange Mobile. A simple search online using the terms Orange Mobile abroad and Virgin Media abroad will yield some helpful results.
