Onda MP4 Player- Can it challenge the mighty pod?

December 10th, 2008 by admin | Posted under Press Releases.

Much has been made of the potential pitfalls of buying online. If you’re not careful you can expose sensitive details to the unscrupulous, buy what looks great onscreen- though is somewhat less than a great deal, or just gets lost in the post. This has led many, who will still buy online, to use brands and sites that are well recognised. For example, you want tunes so you buy your pod from the manufacturer. Now, we’ll all agree that the makers of the most popular device are onto a good thing. All and sundry leap to extole the virtues, stability and stylistic benefits of your purchase- but are you getting the best value?

Let’s assume that being net savvy, you have chosen a reputable site based in your country of residence and have checked out the payment terms and guarantee. Can you make a comparison between the leading touch machine and offerings from other manufacturers? Try The Onda VX747. While direct comparisons often fail at the first hurdle this MP4 player stands up well. A premier manufactuere is offering a 32Gb touch screen with 3.5 inch touch screen, the Onda version arrives with an 8Gb internal memory yet can accept a 32Gb microSD card, taking the overall capacity to 40Gb. Admittedly the screen is slightly smaller at 3 inches, still both are acceptable for both music videos and movies on the move. The Premier machine does offer a couple of class leading facilities such as wifi, Google maps and and a slection of applications aimed at the gaming market. Such functionality can come at a price- you can only use a certain format for music and video and proprietry software for the applications. Meanwhile Onda have tried to steer clear of the headlines and seem to have focused on real-world functionality- the machine is compatible with many formats including Audio MP3, WMA, WMA/VBR, APE, FLAC , AAC, Video RM, RMVB, AVI, DIVX, XVID, FLV, DAT, ASF, MP4, WMV, 3GP, MPG , SWF. So whether at home or with friends this platform should be compatible with whatever toys they’re using. It also boasts an FM radio, digital voice recorder and JPEG viewer and Etext reader. Maybe not as flashy as the entire internet in your pocket but if you commute, you can rehearse your presentation whilst keeping yourself entertained.

Tech-talk aside, both devices are very pretty to look at, easy to use and have Lithium Ion batteries for long-life and easy recharging. But, what’s the bottom line? Well headline grabbers will dent your pocket to the tune of £285 fully armed with 32Gb’s of action, the Onda arrives with 8Gb onboard for £89.99 and a 32Gb micro SD is likely to cost £50. In brutal terms- half the price and still a contender, which causes those who aren’t on the IT-list to ask ‘where’s the best value for money if you want cheap MP3 players ?’
