Electricity Prices

Electricity Prices
have been big news in the UK on the run up to winter with the spectre of ‘fuel poverty’ causing the governmet to implement ‘Warm Front’ policy to help the vulnerable afford energy efficiency improvements in the home to permanently reduce the cost of keeping the household warm. EnergyChoices.co.uk have joined Age Concern and Help the Aged in voicing their concerns that the ‘Warm Front’ scheme is not fit for purpose.

Chris Eagle, commercial manager at EnergyChoices.co.uk said: “It seems the Warm Front scheme is failing to meet the needs of the most vulnderable in our society – and recent figures have estimated that one in four Britons is facing fuel poverty.”

The ‘Warm Front’ grant, currently £2,700 is in urgent need of review, the charities warn. Government figures show 130,799 took advantage of the scheme in the last three years and had to pay top-up contributions averaging £581. 20,491 customers did not proceed with the work being unable to afford the top-up payments, leaving the most vulnerable unable to take advantage of a scheme intended for their benefit.

Gordon Lishman, director general of Age Concern, said: “The harsh reality is that millions of older people are living in cold, energy-inefficient houses and are afraid to turn their heating up because of the cost – which could be putting the health of thousands at risk.”

British Gas Homecare… What is it All About?

December 19th, 2008 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Press Releases

Christmas dinner is in the oven. The entire family is lurking round the Christmas tree slurping on eggnog. The extended family are being bussed in from all points compass and general goodwill is being spread ever further. Her Majesty is due on the box shortly when… Due to the excess loads made on the system by all the extra family and all the extra washing the boiler goes pop, bang and then too quiet.

Plumbers are known to be an expensive hobby, they charge a good deal for their specialised knowledge, even more for a call out fee, an astronomical sum for arriving on Christmas day and, even if the boiler is repairable you must then add the costs of parts and labour or a new boiler. And, when your Nan asks ‘Where’s the British Gas Boiler Cover then dear?’ The appropriate answer probably should be- ‘in the bureau Nan.’

British Gas Homecare is an insurance policy which can cover not only the boiler, but the whole central heating system, the drains, electrical wiring and associated fixtures. Of course the premiums vary depending on the desired level of cover, but by any means of reckoning, it would take several years of insurance premiums to match the cost of one boiler failure.

British Gas also of a ‘Flexi Option’ that equates to a thirty percent discount on the premium though you would be obliged to pay the first fifty pounds if you need to make the call- much like the policy excess now a key feature of many car insurance policies. There are of course many providers of home insurance and specialist cover and a quick comparison of the market should give you all the facts and figures necessary to make an informed decision and have real piece of mind over winter.

Energychoices.co.uk has a wealth of information about all aspects of boiler insurance, as well as supplying visitors the wherewithal to compare gas and electricity prices online, to ensure you are getting the best deal possible in your area.
