Bing: Fastest Growing Search Engine in the US

Despite a slow start and several predictions from industry experts that Bing might not be able to make any significant impact in Google’s market share, Bing seems to finally be making serious inroads, at least the in the American market where it’s secured a nearly 11% market share.

This news makes Bing the fastest growing search engine in America, with a massive 22% increase from July to August in the number of people using the search engine. Microsoft’s engine has continued to pioneer new search functions which has generated a large amount of media coverage and finally moved some users away from Google.

Although Google has been trying out many new features little have had anything to do with changing the way people search and few have been as well publicised as the endeavours by Bing. However, despite the impressive progress made by Microsoft, Google still remains the king of internet search with 65% of the worldwide market share.

The next step for Bing is good news for UK web users – it tends to customise its search based on research that users from different countries use search engines in a different way. Many of Bing’s features and marketing budget have gone into a creating an impressive stateside service, but at the expense of leaving us the UK with less of the innovation Bing has become famous for. This may explain why Google holds a much larger 90% share of the UK market.

This is an interesting development from an SEO standpoint, and something that the industry will need to keep a close eye on in the future as Microsoft begins to aim its sights clearly at the UK market.

Meanwhile, Google has recently revealed its ‘Fast Flip’ service which allows users to quickly and efficiently read news online in a page changing, magazine format. It’s also announced the plan to bring micro-transcations to its online news service, so the company is hardly letting Microsoft keep all of the innovation to itself.

However, If Bing can keep attracting users and live up to its promise to bring a national flavour to searches, we could be seeing the first ever serious competitor to the Google throne.

i have been using the BING search engine for a couple of weeks. it seems to be as good as Google but for some reason i would still want to stick with Google search engine –

      @ Jenna Sia…

Personally I still feel that Google gives the better results.

I think when Bing first came out, many people switched to using it to see what the fuss was, as nobody wants to be left out!

That said, like most people, if I am searching and want to find the best result quickly, I always seem to go back to Google!
