A decade is an incredibly long time when it comes to the internet, and there aren’t many companies that have survived the huge amount of industry and social changes that Blogger has, and still come through it as one of the most well known names both in the world of blogging and on the net in general.
In 1999 the Internet was a vastly different landscape. Napster was the big name in music and MySpace and Google were both very new companies just beginning to start changing the way people use the internet. There were also far less people on the net and very few of them had access to decent broadband connections. It may not have been the dark ages, but it was certainly a massively different environment.
After running out of funds early in its life, Blogger was eventually sold to Google which removed all of the previously paid for content such as Blogger Pro and made everything free for all users.
Today Blogger is one of the biggest websites on the net in terms of unique users and is easily the biggest platform for blogging in the world. Blogger is celebrating its anniversary by offering up a number of new features over the coming weeks, many of them features which have been requested by the community itself.
