Google Adds Book Search to its Search Options

Google are quite well know for being pro-active innovators in the world of search. This year, however, Google seem to have been busier than usual, with updates to it’s seach engine rankings (most recently, the caffeine update) – and amongst other things, Google have now added the ‘Book Search’ option to the list of search options.

The book search featue was actually announced way back in May 09, at the Searchology event, by Google.

The idea behind Google’s search options in general, is, to quote Google:

“Google’s Search options let you slice and dice your search results, explore your search and generate different views of your results page to more easily and quickly find what you need.”

There has been some controversy around the Google Books project as a whole, with the Google Books settlement being at the focal point of the heated discussions. That said, many see the Google Books project as just one more way that Google are trying to make the searching experience richers for it’s visitors, and that the presence of Google Books online won’t stop people wanting to purchase, and own books.

At present, the Book Search option is only added to the US version of Google, but Google do state that they plan on rolling this out to be “available elsewhere in the future.”
