Google has created place rank with Barcode Stickers – Kingpin SEO Company News

Can you imagine if every store you visited a simple barcode sticker on the window search people out your phone wave it in front of the code and be presented with all sorts of information about that particular business? Phone numbers, photos, and customer reviews all in one simple and easy to use interface.

Starting yesterday Google began mailing out special window stickers for the top 190,000 local businesses that are the most search or clicked on within its local business directory.

Anyone with a QR code reader in their mobile phone can scan stickers which will in turn make a call to Google mobile local directory page. from there users will be able to retrieve information including maps, phone numbers, directions, address, and store reviews.

Local businesses can use this type of tool to set up coupon offers. Imagine mobile coupons? How cool. This could help entice someone standing outside the store to come in. Imagine a coupon that tells the user to mention that you found us on Google and get 20% off.

QR is a phenomenally smashing success in Japan. Google feels the US market is ready to be next. In addition to the QR sticker rollout, Google is also distributing 40,000 mark QR code readers. These are apps for the iPhone only cost $1.99 each.

Since they’re now over 1 million local businesses which have claimed their Google local listing, up from just a few hundred thousand last summer. if these stickers become popular in the United States this would encourage war and more local businesses to claim their listings and in the process would give Google access to much cleaner data.

Google has coined the phrase Smart maps. As businesses are added to maps they become clickable and their places page pops up.

However you look at this place rank is not you think it may be. It is nowhere near the same as page rank which is supposed to score relevancy for a webpage. In fact place rank is just a metaphor.
