Yes, let’s talk about the micro service Twitter for a bit. Even though twitter has a nofollow tag on the user’s home page link, that does not mean you cannot take advantage of the super popular service for SEO reasons. Google has recently announced the indexing of tweets, which should have everyone paying attention to this new trend.
Now what we are going to explain to you here may be a little different than the norm. Think of each twitter update… each one that you write can include links and relevant text….including page title text.
Is anyones SEO sixth sense tingling yet? What if I told you that you could use relevant text in the title?. You can!
These status update pages are static and they won’t go away any time soon. Does anyone think that twitter is slowing down or dying off yet?
Recently Google placed a high value on tweets, the more relevant text and links from twitter you have coming to your web property, well I think you get the picture now right.
Consider that twitter also recently changed page title formats. Each status update page now contains Twitter / username plus the first 35 characters or so of that particular tweet.
Look at it this way; the first few words of your tweet are placed in the title of that status updates page. Each page is counted by Google, they may not index every tweet, but we know they are paying attention. Using the right keywords and using them first in your tweets helps score relevance. Since your page title can contain your keyword phrase (remember to place it in the first part of the tweet) while on page you can have a link pointing to which ever content you see fit.
When looking for proactive ways to build backlinks naturally, this should be an integral part of any campaign, even though no link-juice follows, relevancy and the amount of chatter or tweets about your site or product cannot hurt.
